A working party of respected accounting & taxation professionals has endorsed the ICAEW’s newly issued ‘Professional Conduct in Relation to Taxation’.

I am loyal to my profession but even I have to admit that this sounds a tad “dry” as subject matter goes.  It may surprise you then that I am actually looking  forward to reading it.

It covers current hot topics including the sometimes-fine-line between planning, avoidance and evasion & how to help clients who wish to “rectify past irregularities”.  But, whilst I will be delving into its depths, I wanted to share with you  the 5 fundamental principles  which should shape your relationship with your tax adviser:

  • Integrity,
  • Objectivity,
  • Professional competence & due care,
  • Confidentiality, and
  • Professional behaviour.
